The Daily for the iPad launchesThe first Daily eNewspaper specifically for the iPad was announced today by publisher Rupert Murdoch of News Corp (NASDAQ:NWS) and Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Eddy Cue (in lieu of Apple CEO Steve Jobs who is on medical leave).

“The Daily,” will offer 360-degree photos, audio, and Twitter feeds built into stories, so when you are reading a gossip column about a celeb, his or her Twitter feed is embedded in the story.

Graphics in the eNewsletter respond to touch. You can follow any sports team, creating your own local newspaper.

The Daily is published by Murdoch’s News Corp. (which owns The Wall Street Journal, New York Post and Fox News). He is betting that consumers will pay for general news content online (not just specialized financial content as offered by the WSJI under a pay wall). He’s sunk $30 million into The Daily which will run at cost of about $.5 million a week.

The Daily launches today and will cost iPad users 99 cents a week or $39.99 a year. The first two weeks are free via Verizon (NYSE:VZ).

Anyone can also see some content from The Daily on its free website www.thedaily.com. It will offer a small sample of The Daily stories each day.

The ePaper is written by editors from The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The New York Times (NYSE:NYT), AOL (NYSE:AOL) and other publications.

About 15 million iPads have sold across the globe and over the next 5 years analysts predict 100 million tablet PCs (of many brands) will be in users hands, said Fox Business News. The Daily is expected to remain exclusive to the iPad for at least two years.

About 7 out of 10 college students access their news strictly from online sources, said Fox.
