The Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad 2 reportedly sold out after one day, to the shock of many industry members.
About a half million units sold to consumers, while the original iPad saw sales of about 300,000 units in a weekend. What’s notable is that the iPad 2 numbers were over a single day and the original iPad sales were over a weekend, as per Piper Jaffray estimates reported by Fortune.
Some analysts estimated weekend sales as high as one million units, said Reuters.
Piper Jaffray polled 236 people waiting online to buy the iPad 2 and determined 70 percent were first time iPad buyers rather than people upgrading from the original Apple tablet.
Deutsche Bank’s Chris Whitmore also found stores were sold of the iPad 2 in what he terms a “shocking” sales pace, reported Fortune.
An Apple spokesman called the demand “amazing,” said The Wall Street Journal.
