Google Maps Navigation now has free trafficThe Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Maps Navigation app for Android devices now gives you free routing around traffic as well as its present free turn by turn directions.

As shown below, when the app calculates a route it takes into consideration real time traffic conditions to deliver the best option.

Previously, Google Maps Navigation would choose the fastest route without taking traffic into account. Also, the app is now using historical traffic patterns to help select the best roadways.

Real time traffic data isn’t available everywhere in the U.S., but the coverage map here looks pretty good.

Google Maps for the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)  iPhone does not have a routing around traffic as yet, says CNN.

Navigation with traffic works in Google Maps as well as the navigation app.
