Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) announced that its WiFi, 9.7-inch TouchPad—its first tablet using the webOS (rather than Android or Apple’s iOS) will be available at retailers in July starting at just under $500.
A second version of the HP TouchPad offering AT&T (NYSE:T) wireless service will be released later this summer at a price to be announced.
The basic WiFi TouchPad offers 16G at $499.99 and the step up version has 32GB of storage at $599.99. Pre-orders begin June 19.
The TouchPad promises heavy-duty multi-tasking and a premium audio playback system with stereo speak. It has a Touch-to-Share feature that transfers songs, etc. by tapping a phone and tablet together. It will have an optional accessories including a “Touchstone” charging dock, wireless keyboard and case.
It runs on a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU and has a front-facing 1.3 MP webcam with support for video calling. It supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth.
