The Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) IPO
By VFC’s Stock House

No doubt Friday’s Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) IPO marks an historical moment in the history of the tech and financial sectors, but that’s all that this much-anticipated event might turn out to be — a moment in time that, at the end of the day, means little in the grand scheme of things, other than that a great campaign of hype can spark enough emotional momentum to create an insane amount of wealth for those involved in the hype campaign. Why a Summer Rally is Possible

By Michael Tarsala

Liz Ann Sonders - Schwab

Liz Ann Sonders

The ongoing stock market selloff should be less harsh than in the past two years, says Liz Ann Sonders, Schwab’s chief investment strategist.

You can read her latest strategy update here.

Here’s a cheat sheet:

– A Q2 selloff could set the stage for a summer rally.

– Sell in May doesn’t work well in election years: The Dow has been up 4.5% in May through October in election years and up 2.6% during those months for all years. Read More

Facebook (NASDAQ:FB)
Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is set to launch it’s initial public offering (IPO) on May 18th. The social media giant has an initial target valuation as high as $100 billion. Looking at the astrology for May 18th we can get some clues as to how the stock will do, and the potential risks involved with the trade.

Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and Chief Executive at Facebook, recently celebrated his 28th birthday making the Sun’s placement in the IPO chart conjoin to his birth Sun. This is a powerful placement for the founder and the company to share in a new creative venture that will carry far into the future. Read More

How to Play the Indian Growth Story: INFY, HDB, RDY

By John Linnemeier

India - stocksAll three of my holdings in my model are Indian ADRs. I’m in for the long haul. One of the truest things I know about the stock market is the axiom, “In the short term the market is a voting machine, and in the long term it’s a weighing machine.” I can’t say for sure how these three stocks will do in the short term, but I strongly believe that India, and most of Asia, has a bright future in the long term.

Infosys Limited (ADR) (NASDAQ:INFY) is the preeminent software exporting company in India. They are continually crawling up the value ladder with increasingly sophisticated software products. Wages for software engineers in India have increased substantially, but not enough to cut deeply into this marvelous company’s profits. Read More

Here’s Why the Big Money Likes Stocks

By Charles Sizemore

Charles Sizemore

Charles Sizemore

It’s that time of year again, dear reader. Twice per year, Barron’s does a survey of large professional money managers to get their outlook for the market (see “ Reason to Cheer “).

I get a lot of value out of reading the survey results, but not necessarily for the reasons you might think. This is a topic I first covered for MarketWatch late in 2011 (see “Big Money Looks Bullish“).

It generally pays to invest with the Big Money. After all, these are some of the best and brightest minds in the business, and they have the ability to move the market. But even professionals can succumb to herding behavior at times. When it appears that “everyone” is on the same side of a trade, surveys like these can be useful for crafting contrarian bets. Ideally, you like to see a general consensus among the Big Money but not quite unanimity. Read More

stock market European elections, the people’s protests of Putin in Russia and Walt Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) ‘The Avengers’ dominated headlines over the weekend. As the Russian people displayed their dismay with the re-election of Vladimir Putin in Russia, France’s Nicolas Sarkozy was the latest European politician to receive the boot from voters still feeling the pain of the global economic meltdown a few years ago — and incumbents in Greece didn’t fare much better.

While that all put pressure on the recoveries in those respective regions, ‘The Avengers’ turned into quite the feel-good success story for Disney, as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes stormed big screens around the world in record-setting fashion — which gives us a pretty good indication that consumers are still willing to spend on play and leisure time, as long as they believe that the time will be worth it. By Kris Tuttle

Linkedin Corporation, Inc. (NYSE:LNKD) has Facebook (FB) to thank for saving its business and making it a valuable property.

AT&T (NYSE:T) - teen trackingAT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) wants to play a leading role in “smart car solutions” in the future and so it has launched a research project that could be the future of teen tracking. The technology might also be used to tell if an elderly driver is no longer driving safely.

The company has created a device that plugs into the car’s on-board computer to monitor a teen’s driving in real time AND that works with his cellphone so the parent can remotely disable the phone if the kid is texting while driving.

The device transmits info such as car speed, accelerating, steering and braking, as well as GPS coordinates. Then the phone, through an app, sends out information on its usage. Read More

stock market - news - Wall StreetAnother strong week was recognized by the markets, with a slew of positive earnings reports boosting stocks higher every day and into the close on Friday.

The most notable report may have come from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Although AAPL shares had slipped over the previous weeks, another strong round of earnings that again confirmed the company’s dominance in the tech arena quickly sent shares back to over the six hundred dollar mark.

Earnings for the quarter registered at a good two bucks over the general analyst consensus and the strength of the iPhone and tablet sales numbers was a fine demonstration of the continued spending of tech-hungry consumers, even while some argue that the economy has yet to gain full steam again or might be on the brink of another setback.
