Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone

By Amy Gilroy

A Citadel Securities analyst reports it is ever more likely that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will sell the iPhone through Sprint (NYSE:S), especially now that Verizon (NYSE:VZ) is moving to tiered data plans.

Analyst Shing Yin notes that Sprint will be the only remaining carrier with an unlimited data plan, which is something that Apple favors, he claims. Read More

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) White iPhone

By Amy Gilroy

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) — The white iPhone that finally landed in Apple Stores Thursday, was off to a good start in sales, at least in China, where people were lining up by the hundreds, said Digital Trends.

In the United States, the white version of iPhone 4 is available on both Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T) services and is expected to be available through both carriers’ stores as well as other select retailers.  Read More

Radio Could Benefit From AT&T’s (NYSE:T) Deal For T-Mobile

The following article comes from Tom Taylor’s newsletter, Taylor on Radio-Info.

AT&T & T-Mobile MergerThe long-term is that AT&T (NYSE:T) is making a bold (and costly) bid to improve its 4G service, often the target of industry humor. In fact, Ad Age points out that one of the telecom rivals who’s been poking fun at AT&T’s spotty service is…T-Mobile. The current ad campaign from T-Mobile, from the Publicis Seattle shop, is a takeoff on Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) “PC vs. Mac” ads aimed directly at AT&T. Obviously the agency didn’t know AT&T would haul out a checkbook and offer to pay $39 billion for its client. In fact, the deal’s a surprise all the way around, since T-Mobile had been in merger talks for at least two years with Sprint (NYSE:S) – not AT&T. The real backdrop of this deal is Verizon (NYSE:VZ) Wireless. AT&T wants to get bigger (and stronger) than Verizon, and if this deal makes it past the federal regulators, three out of four American wireless users would be with either AT&T or Verizon. AT&T alone would have 130 million customers, twice as many as Sprint. As more radio is delivered to mobile devices, more capacity is a good thing, and thus AT&T’s deal should help radio that’s streaming and otherwise available to smart phones and their cousins. And short-term? If AT&T can gobble up T-Mobile, it’s going to focus even more on Verizon Wireless. That should be good for ad budgets.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad 2By Amy Gilroy

Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad 2, which becomes available today, may see sales reach 600,000 units at launch, surpassing the original iPad, which sold 300,000 units in its first 24 hours, said analysts.

Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies and Brian Marshall of Gleacher & Co, are both expecting 500,000 in iPad 2 sales, said Bloomberg.

The newest iPad has an advantage at retail as it will be launched in Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T) outlets, as well as Best Buy (NYSE:BBY), Walmart (NYSE:WMT) and Target (NYSE:TGT) stores plus some smaller Apple resellers totalling over 10,000 outlets. Last year the iPad was only offered in Apple Stores and Best Buy, or a total of about 1,100 stores. Read More

Sprint and T-Mobile in Talks to Merge Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) is again in talks with T-Mobile USA parent Deutsche Telekom (DTE:GR) to explore ways to combine the number 3 and 4 cellular carriers.

Sprint and T-Mobile are falling farther behind market leaders Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T), says the Wall Street Journal. Sprint can’t compete with the larger carriers to win big deals for products like the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone. And T-Mobile is lagging in building next generation networks and may soon run out of spectrum. Read More

Motorola (NYSE: MMI-WI) XOOM tablet

By Amy Gilroy

Motorola’s (NYSE:MMI) Xoom tablet, which is officially available Thursday, gives us the first glimpse of Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Honeycomb OS designed for tablets and reviewers say it’s a big improvement over earlier versions of Android. The Xoom is also fast and zippy but it’s quirky in some areas, leading some to conclude the product was rushed to market.

Then again the Xoom will be updated in Q2 so buyers can rest easier. Read More
